For some time now I have been increasingly concerned about the role and use of social media in our lives.
Lots of media chat about free speech, censorship, banning of users. I can’t help feel that the money boys are manipulating us to sell more data and thus make more money ( see recent moves by Google and the Australian Federal Govt to ban ‘search’ button, in response to new regulations)
So does this activity threaten our society and democracy? Ponder the following:
- Do you and I benefit from Social media?
- Is social media a drug?
- Does Social media have no knowledge of what is Truth?
- Does Social media only know likes and interactions?
- Is Social Medias main tool Algorithms?
- Does Social Media manipulate us?
- Why does Social Media not feed us with a different perspective on issues?
Have a read of the recent article by Corbett Barr who has a blog called FIZZLE. It will make you think. It may cause you to act.
At the very least you may become aware of the dangers of Social media and the way it is engineered to keep you in your bubble by the use of our own Human Psychology.
